And, it is there! Not in pages but in the details. In the everyday simple details of life lies the answer for ways to be happy without the worries of past or future.

What is Worrying?

If you want to understand happiness, then it’s important to understand Worry too.

Worry in simple words means a feeling of anxiousness about the unknown possibilities that could happen to us. It also means you are spending your energy and time on something which is not actually happening.

Worries of the past or future have their own impact on our body. Nervous system and heart are majorly affected by worrying or stress.

What Worrying does to Your Body

  • It affects your nervous system
  • Breathing becomes difficult over a period of time
  • Tightened muscles
  • Leads to high BP, heart attack or stroke
  • The blood sugar goes high
  • Your immune system gets messed up too.

This might be scary but the point is, don’t let this scare you. Because, being happy has a far more holistic impact on your body and mind.

Take a U-Turn towards Happiness by Changing Your Mindset

I once read this line and it stayed with me. It was life changing.

“Everything that you will ever need is already within you.” So, the happiness that you are looking for is within you too.

Be it in any radical change, the first thing that comes is, Change of mindset. Yes, you become what you think.

This brings me to the book, The Secret! It says, Energy flows where attention goes. You are what you think. If you think, I can’t wish for a happy life and that is how it is going to be.

So, bring a shift in your mindset and see your life transform.

Ways To Be Happy without Worries of the Past or Future

Let Go of Your Past

No matter how difficult it is, let go of the past and be open to new chapters.

I have read many poems where people wrote that their past haunts them.

It is not easy to let go of the past but start. Take small steps.

Be kind to yourself, accept yourself, forgive yourself if needed.

Try to forgive people who hurt you. Holding a grudge will only exhaust your energy.

Recently in the Generation Unlimited speech in the UN General Assembly, BTS leader Kim Namjoon shared these lines on self-love and embracing yourself despite how your past was or your future could be.

“Maybe I made a mistake yesterday, but yesterday’s me is still me. I am who I am today, with all my faults. Tomorrow I might be a tiny bit wiser, and that’s me, too.

These faults and mistakes are what I am, making up the brightest stars in the constellation of my life. I have come to love myself for who I was, who I am, and who I hope to become.”

Your Future Becomes what You Do Today

My mother often told me the story of ants when I was growing up, how they work in summers to store food for winter and rest later.

It is kind of the same with humans too. Our future reflects the works of our present.

Instead of having worries of the past or future, it is much better to use that energy to do things now and enjoy it’s results later.

All We have is NOW

In true sense, if you take away every imagination, possibilities and resources all that is left in your hands, at the moment is NOW. The present reality.

And if we are not able to live, utilize or enjoy this now, we are losing big time.
