“Our lives improve only when we take chances — and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves.” ― Walter Anderson

There are times in our lives when we feel that the things are not moving forward. There are times when we see that we are not making progress and these are the times we should realize that some significant changes are required in our lives.

Ever since childhood, we are told to be safe and to go about the path that our ancestors have laid down for us. The safe path ensures that we succeed and have a fantastic future.

However, this is not at all true. You can never succeed unless you take chances. No matter how much people tell you to follow the known path and refrain yourself from doing anything new, your life will not improve until you take chances.

Let us take an example of water. If the water stays stagnant for a long time, it will start breeding mosquitoes. However, if the water keeps flowing, it can be the home to many fishes and organism. It can be the life giver.

Similarly, if you stay stagnant and not take chances, you will get bored of your life.

Walter Anderson said, “Our lives improve only when we take chances — and the first and most difficult risk we can take is to be honest with ourselves.”

The Biggest Challenge Faced when We Take Chances

The biggest challenge anyone can face when they take chances is that they need to be honest with themselves.

Doing what other people tell you to do is easy. This way, if you fail, you have someone else to blame for your failure.

But when you take chances all by yourself and decide to improve your life, you need to be honest with yourself. You need to accept your strengths and weaknesses and make sure to work on them.

To improve your life, you need to know exactly where things are going wrong and where exactly do you lack. Getting a perspective on your life is the most challenging thing you can do.

As humans, it is tough to accept our shortcomings, and it is challenging to be honest about the things we are doing wrong. But a successful person is only successful when he admits his faults and deals with them.
